Update: July 1, 2008
Iowa Cleanup Needs
Iowa residents are in the midst of cleaning up after recent
widespread flooding. There are several ways your
congregation or group can help.
PDA has received a list of specific large items needed to
help with cleanup efforts in Iowa. The list is available
at
<http://www.pcusa.org/pda/response/usa/midwestflooding-ia-equipmentneeded2008.htm>
Only the items on this list are requested at this time.
The PDA Call Center is receiving calls from volunteer work
teams that would like to help in Iowa. There are locations
ready to receive work teams; the work at this time is
mucking out of flooded homes. Interested teams may call
the PDA Call Center at 866-732-6121 or may register online.
Volunteer opportunities, including the Iowa opportunity,
are listed at <http://www.pcusa.org/pda/teams.htm>
Clean-up buckets are still in great demand. There is a
bulletin insert available, which lists the contents of the
bucket and gives shipping information. See the 2008 U.S.
Storms index for this, and for updates on the response.

URGENT NEED FOR CLEAN UP BUCKETS ~ PDA DR000151
Information on making and shipping the buckets can be found
the PDA web site: http://www.pcusa.org/pda/help/goh.htm
A storm system boasting heavy rains and some snow has swelled creeks and rivers across much of the central United
States — especially affected are Missouri and Arkansas. Rivers in Missouri have been cresting well above flood
level, and in many areas have exceeded the severe floods of 1993. Arkansas is expecting its worst flooding in 25
years. As floodwaters recede, families will face the daunting task of clean up and debris removal from the muddy waters.
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance has provided $10,000 from One Great Hour of Sharing funds to the help families in
their clean up efforts. Materials to fill clean-up buckets are being purchased, and the Ferncliff Presbyterian Camp and
Conference Center in Little Rock, Arkansas, will coordinate volunteers to assemble the buckets. Clean-up buckets are
one of the Gift of the Heart kits distributed through the Ferncliff Church World Service warehouse.
Please prayerfully consider involving your congregation in helping with this effort by:
1. Putting together clean-up buckets and shipping them to Ferncliff, or
2. Making a gift of $50.00 (the suggested donation to purchase a bucket and its contents) designated for DR000151. You may submit your check to the POJ as follows: Please make payable to the POJ, marked DR000151, and mail to Presbytery of the James, 3218 Chamberlayne Avenue, Richmond, VA 23227
